About the Coach
Kathryn Holloway - Running Coach & Personal Trainer
Kathryn is a qualified personal trainer and group exercise instructor (Cert III & Cert IIII), and is also an Athletics Australia Level 1 & Level 2 Middle/ Long Distance coach. Kathryn has been running for most of her life (40 years!) She represented England in schoolgirls cross-country and was a member of the highly respected Wolverhampton and Bilston Athletics Club in the UK for ten years. As she travelled England competing and training, Kathryn gained enormous benefit from the expertise of some of the UK’s top coaches. As a result, many of the training techniques she was exposed to then are incorporated in her training programs today.
Kathryn has competed in many running events both in the UK and Australia. She has lost count of the 10K and half marathon race’s she has competed in, however remembers well the 2 x 100K ultra running events.
After her 3rd child Lucy was born, 3 years ago in 2008 Kathryn decided to give marathon running a go. She surprised herself; in her debut marathon – Canberra 2008 – Kathryn clocked 3 hours 18 minutes earning her the fastest female debut title. At the end of that race, Kathryn also vowed never to run another marathon! How quickly we forget the pain, because five months later, she was the 9th woman home in the Sydney marathon, in a time of 3 hours 9 minutes.
In August 2009, Kathryn ran the 100 kilometre Oxfam Trailwalker, the lone girl in a four-person team, then backed that up as a pacer in the Sydney 2009 marathon where she paced the 3 hour 45 minute runners. This was one of Kathryn’s highlights in her running life, the inspiration and satisfaction that Kathryn gained from this experience was a light bulb moment that has driven her to where she is today.
Last year, in 2010, Kathryn broke her ankle and renewed her acquaintance with the bike to help the healing process. Incredibly, in September, she ran the Sydney marathon again, this time in 3 hours 11 minutes. To cap off the year, Kathryn’s 20 year career with American Express came to an end. Her redundancy timed neatly with her realisation that her fitness, passion for running and the wellbeing she derived from it was something she could share and help others to attain. She launched her own Personal Training and group exercise business “Positive Fitness”
Kathryn says, “I really enjoy the challenge of helping people get stronger, feel better about themselves and to achieve goals they didn’t think were possible. I want to help people make exercise a lifelong ritual, so it’s not just a five-week plan, but a whole new approach to life.
